Connections

I want to do something involving the past and present in my piece, and the way I see it is that I could do something involving relics or rebirth. What I'm thinking is doing something inspired by stained glass, except without using glass in my piece because no way do I have the skills or patience to complete an entire glass work. So, instead, I'll draw a picture inspired by them. I've always thought the way glass art is different to other artwork was interesting and very pretty. I like how the art always seems so still but it works so nicely. I also like how the light makes it appear, but I recently learnt that glass-style artwork that isn't on glass can sill look gorgeous. I feel as though stained glass is a good reflection of the past on the modern day.

This piece was created by the Nintendo company to advertise their newest edition into the Zelda franchise, "Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker". This is related to time as the characters featured in the piece have been reborn over time, and have even been referred to as 'the hero of time'. They used a stained glass window style as they had been used in churches to tell the stories of great heroes, which these characters are viewed as in the franchise. Nintendo had created a tale around these heroes, creating an everlasting romance between a princess and a hero, which can kind of be seen in this picture.

This piece was created a long time ago and is currently featured in St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle. In British lore, we have a tale of a knight who slayed a ferocious dragon that terrorised the British nation.  To this day, the media has been inspired by his tales and continues to work with the idea of a dragon slayer. I love how simple the design appears but when you look closer at the smaller details, you begin to see how beautiful it truly is and what makes it worthy of being in a royal castle.

This piece is one of Banksy's many in America during his tour. To me, it shows the irony of a little girl's situation, and perhaps an internal meaning of depression. Banksy is well-known for confronting social issues and injustices through the use of graffiti is public places, where everyone can see it. However, a lot of the time, Banksy's art gets painted over or removed for whatever reason, be them too disturbing or someone just not knowing it was Banksy's. I would like to make something similarly provocative with a social injustice.
